Updates from Ofqual:

(Ofqual is the authority which regulates and accredits British examination boards offering GCSEs and GCE A Levels)

We are taking advice from Ofqual regarding the summer exam series for Years 11 and 13.  Currently they are advising schools to continue to plan for the exams to run as normal.  We will keep you updated with any changes we make.

How do we assess students in 2018? 1-9 grades explained

Internal Assessments

As you know at Consett Academy we do all we can to ensure that your child maximises their progress in order to secure the results needed to fulfil their aspirations over the coming years. As part of this strategy, we will be conducting next set of practise examinations..

The rationale behind this approach is that:

  • It gives students an opportunity to become comfortable with the examination process and the associated challenges this brings.
  • It provides teachers with the information they need about students’ knowledge and skills to inform future lesson intervention planning.
  • It gives all students and parents the clearest indication of their progress at this point, as the examination performance will be measured in conjunction with coursework and controlled assessment scores where applicable.

Our intention is to give your child the most realistic experience possible. As a result, these exams will adhere to formal exam board protocols and procedures. We are therefore expecting the highest standards in relation to attendance, punctuality and conduct.

In order to maximise your child’s performance in these exams, we would expect them to prepare effectively and to put in a much effort as possible so that staff know exactly what support they will need to achieve or exceed their potential in the summer. This preparation should include a combination of independent study and attending/completing any relevant revision opportunities provided by the Academy.

I would like to thank you for your continued support in this very important year for your child and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact your child's Achievement Leader or Year Manager.
