  • Vocational Enrichment Week

    This week is our first Vocational Enrichment Week of three this academic year. The intent is to support the real work experiences of our vocational offering. Over the week, 222 of our students (from four years groups) will be involved in seven subjects. We are working with our local community to provide these sessions with a majority of our students attending Derwentside College. Read More

    Huge Congratulations and welcome to our Year 11 Committee for this academic year; Arran D, Clayton D, George G, Ethan B, Amy W, Faith C, Lily-Jo Mc N, Lauren V, Lydia B, Sophie S, Lauren R and Zoe B. This committee will play an important role throughout this year in supporting and sharing the views of all Year 11. They will also help Year’s 7-10 when it comes to organising events e.g. Children in Need and specific topics and agendas in school e.g. oracy. During the election process students put themselves forward for the role of either Head Boy or Head Girl. They all delivered fantastic presentations and answered questions on the roles and what they could bring to the life of the Academy.     Stem Trip - Port of Blyth

    A group of Year 10 students visited the Port of Blyth to experience presentations, site tours and demonstrations delivered my numerous STEM Businesses (including Ore Catapult, Global Marine, IHC & Mitsubishi Vestas) to gain an insight into the careers available in the Renewable Energy Sector e.g. wind farming & cutting edge fibre optic cabling solutions. Finally, students were put through their paces in the undergraduate ‘Engineering Training Workshop’ and had to use the available tools to adapt a metal sheet to specification. #STEMtastic! Read More

    National Poetry Day -Thursday 3rd October - Theme is truth

    For this year's National Poetry Day students have been considering the issues of information, truth and misinformation in the world today. They have also had the opportunity to discuss what makes 'real' news and how to spot 'fake' news. Miss Horth has challenged them to come up with their own poems based upon either a real or fake headline. Poems should be submitted to Miss Horth in the LRC by the end of Friday 11th October.
