We operate an open access and fully inclusive admissions policy and pupils from all backgrounds and abilities are welcome.

New College Durham Academies Trust is the Admissions Authority responsible for determining and applying this policy in the following academies in accordance with the DfE School Admissions Code:

Consett Academy

North Durham Academy

The Trust will consider all admissions applications sent to them by the Local Authority (LA) and will apply the policy fairly and consistently to every application received.  The Trust is also responsible for organising admission appeals in compliance with the School Admission Appeals Code.

Please click here for a copy of our Admissions Policy.

We provide up to 300 places to Year 7 students each year.

For entry into Year 7, applications to the Academy will be made through the Local Authority and the Academy will operate oversubscription criteria as stated in the Admissions Policy. As a parent/carer you are required to complete the Common Application Form (CAF) which is available from the Local Authority. If you would like to apply for a Year 7 place at the Academy you should name Consett Academy as your preference on the CAF.

How to apply for 2020/21 academic year

If your son/daughter is born between 1 September 2008 and 31 August 2009 they will be eligible to start secondary school in September 2020.

If your son/daughter is at school in County Durham you will receive a letter during September from the admissions team at Durham County Council.  These letters are distributed by primary schools.

Children are no longer required to attend the closest secondary school to their home address.  You can express up to three preferences for your child to be admitted into a secondary school of your choice.  At Consett Academy, we can accommodate up to 300 students in each year group.

Our projected figures for September 20120 admissions shows there will be limited spaces available as our intake for 2019 was oversubscribed. This means that there has never been a better time to apply to Consett Academy, although increased demand for us from other areas does mean that you would be wise to place us as your first choice.

If you live outside of County Durham you can still apply to Consett Academy, but you will need to complete the form provided by your Local Authority and name Consett Academy as your first choice. The process is very similar to the one above and, again, we are more than happy to offer support to you throughout the process, either in person or by telephone.

There are four ways you can make your application, you can either:

Complete the on-line form by 31st October 2019 — you can only do the online form if you live in County Durham.

Contact the admissions team on 03000 265 897 or email: schooladmissions@durham.gov.uk to be sent a pack.  Your form must be returned to County Hall in Durham by 31st October 2019.

The deadline for application to secondary school is 31 October 2019.

Parents will be notified of the child's school place on 2nd March 2020.

How to apply online

To make an application online, you will need to register. Once you have registered you will be sent a link to enable you to log back into the online system and add your application. If you have previously applied online for a school place you do not need to re-register, the same details can be used. You should only use this online system if you live in County Durham.

You can apply for a school place using the online system: Online School Admissions System.

Every day is an Open Day

Please contact Mrs Somerville on 01207 507001 or email: enquiries@consettacademy.org.uk to arrange a convenient time.
