Another set of impressive A’ Level Results for Consett Academy Sixth Form!

Consett Academy students have done it again, achieving an impressive set of results. Our overall pass rate is an outstanding 100%, for the 3rd year running, with almost 20% achieving the highest grades of A*/A, and 47% being awarded A* - B. The overwhelming majority of students have achieved their predicted grades, with many surpassing expectation, some achieving the coveted A* grade at A2.  We are incredibly proud of them all!

Consett Academy is already one of the country’s top performing Sixth Form centres for academic progress and is currently in the top 4% nationally due to its outstanding results.

Students leaving Consett Academy this year are yet again progressing to some of the country’s most prestigious and competitive university destinations.

We are delighted to report that the vast majority of our students were accepted into their first choice universities.  Given the intense competition surrounding university admissions, we are especially proud of our students for their success in achieving their desired destinations.

Among the students celebrating today are:

Ebony Bowman-Wood, 18 from Consett, achieving A* grades for both Philosophy & Ethics and Extended Project and A grades for both English Language and English Literature.   Ebony plans to accept her offer of a place to study Law at Nottingham University.

Daniel Ridley, 18 from Consett, achieved A* for Physics and A grades for both Chemistry and Mathematics as well as a B in ICT at AS Level.  Daniel plans to accept his offer of a place to study Mechanical Engineering at Leeds University.

Anya Sugden, 18 from Shotley Bridge, achieved A* grades for both Psychology & French and grade B for English Literature.  Anya plans to accept her offer of a place to study in Czech Republic at Masarykova Univerzita.

These high achieving students will be attending “Russell Group” universities, who are made up of the top ranking universities in Britain.

Mrs Rachel Somerville, Director of School and Curriculum at Consett Academy commented, “Consett Academy Sixth Form students work hard and are dedicated to their studies.  I am very proud of every one of them for the successes that we can see both in their results and the personal achievements and journeys that they have been on as they have completed their courses over the last two years.  It is always a delight to watch them grow into young adults and achieve their A’ levels allowing them to take the next step towards the jobs of the future.”

Mr Kevin Reynolds, Executive Principal, New College Durham Academies Trust said, “The last two year’s results were outstanding and I knew would be hard to match, given the uncertainty around the new A’ level courses, but through hard work and determination, many students have surpassed their expectations; I am delighted for them and am very proud. I would also like to take this opportunity to praise our staff; for their dedication, support and ‘going the extra mile’. I wish all our Year 13 students the very best for the future; they have given themselves a great foundation on which to build upon going into their undergraduate studies.”

Staff are now preparing for enrolment of next year’s Sixth Form to build on this year’s success. Students can enrol on 24th & 25th August 2017.

Consett Academy will be holding a Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 21st September at 6.00pm for any Year 11 students who are interested in joining our successful Sixth Form in September 2018.  To find out more about what Consett Academy has to offer go to
