Consett Academy Achieve Investing in Children Membership Award
Consett Academy is proud to announce that we have achieved the Investing in Children Membership Award™.
Investing in Children Membership™ gives organisations national recognition for the good practice and active inclusion of children and young people in dialogue resulting in change.
During the Investing In Children Membership Award Evaluation of Evidence, Chris Affleck, Project Worker, Investing in Children met with over forty students to find out their views on life at the academy.
Chris Affleck, Project Worker, Investing in Children said, “The young people that I met with spoke very positively and passionately about the various opportunities for students to have a voice which has resulted in positive change within the Academy.”
Chris continued “What really stood out for me was the way older students were encouraged to take a lead by facilitating the Student Council meetings and supporting the lower year groups to have their say whilst acting as the link between the pupils and the Senior Leadership Team. There is also a clear opportunity for progression from Student Council, to Academy Leaders up to the Sixth Form Presidents.”
“When asked if the young people thought the Academy should receive the Investing in Children Membership Award™ the young people unanimously agreed that they should.
It is on that basis that I would highly recommend Consett Academy once again receive the Investing in Children Membership Award™."
Mr Reynolds, Executive Principal, New College Durham Academies Trust said, “I’m delighted Consett Academy has been given this award, it recognises the close working partnership between our students and staff and how the young people from Year 7 to Sixth Form lead improvement at their Academy.”
Chris Affleck, Project Worker, Investing in Children will present Consett Academy with a certificate on 5th May 2017.
