We operate an open access and fully inclusive admissions policy and pupils from all backgrounds and abilities are welcome. The academy follows the same admission arrangements as those operated by Durham County Council.
We provide up to 300 places to Year 7 pupils each year. For entry into Year 7, applications to the Academy will be made through the Local Authority co-ordinated admissions scheme. The Academy will operate the same admissions arrangements and oversubscription criteria as Durham County Council. As a parent/carer you are required to complete the Common Application Form (CAF) which is sent by their local authority. If you would like to apply for a Year 7 place at the Academy you should name Consett Academy as your preference on the CAF.
if your son/daughter is born between 1 September 2006 and 31 August 2007 they will be eligible to start secondary school in September 2018.
If your son/daughter is at school in County Durham you will receive a letter during September from the admissions team at Durham County Council. These letters are distributed by primary schools.
Children are no longer required to attend the closest secondary school to their home address. You can express up to three preferences for your child to be admitted into a secondary school of your choice. At Consett Academy, we can accommodate up to 300 students in each year group.
Our projected figures for September 2018 admissions shows there are places available to accommodate more children due to the lower birth rates in primary schools and the fact that we are one of the largest secondary schools in the area.
This means that there has never been a better time to apply to Consett Academy, although increased demand for us from other areas does mean that you would be wise to place us as your first choice.
If you live outside of County Durham you can still apply to Consett Academy, but you will need to complete the form provided by your Local Authority and name Consett Academy as your first choice. The process is very similar to the one above and, again, we are more than happy to offer support to you throughout the process, either in person or by telephone.
There are four ways you can make your application, you can either:
